Cloud Hosting Vs Shared Hosting ! Which hosting to choose ?
When it comes for choosing a hosting plan for our websites then most of us tries to get it for cheapest as possible. We search for free hosting, shared hosting , cloud hosting , Reseller Hosting , Virtual Private Server , Dedicated Web Server , Self Service Hosting. In last we stick to lowest possible plans provided to us. We never think about the draw backs of using a limited or restricted hosting plan. Mostly we get a shared hosting plan for low budget , hosting providers give a fancy plan to host one , four or unlimited number of websites in a low budget plan.
When we are buying shared hosting plans then the seller will never explain restriction or limitations applied with the plan. They will not disclose such kind of details on their website or anywhere . After we buy their plans , then we get to know about the limitations of the plan. Websites get down after getting excess traffic , then the hosting provider will ask you to upgrade the plan as your available resources limit exceeded. In shared hosting your website will be down for silly reasons , like server maintenance , server migration , technical problems.
When it coming for Cloud Hosting plans , you have to pay a little bit higher than your traditional hosting plans but you will never regret for that. Your website will never go down as cloud hosting servers don’t let users suffer. If there is any problem on one sever they shift the load to another server automatically. Even website loading speed will increase in cloud hosting , websites can handle much higher load of traffic as compared to traditional hosting. Cloud hosting is used most after shared hosting , as other hosting like VPS and Dedicated server hosting are more costly.
Shared Hosting Explained :
In a shared hosting so many websites are hosted together , which use the same limited resources ( storage , disk space , databases ) provided by the hosting provider. It is cheaper and easy to use a shared hosting plan ,so it’s better for starting stage. But it is never a better option if your website is getting a lot of traffic as shared hosting plan restricts the number of traffic as well. If your website is consuming more resources then provided then your website will go down automatically . Hosting provider will not bother to help you out , even they won’t inform you that your website is not live anymore.
Cloud Hosting Explained :
In cloud hosting your website does not rely on one single sever , there is a cluster of servers that working together to host your website. If there is any issue on one server , then other server will share the load so website will never go down. Even the traffic is increased then other server will bear it’s load. So if your are using a Cloud hosting then you can believe that your website will be live 24*7.
If your website is new , not getting enough traffic and you are low in budget then you can go for shared hosting , else you should go for Cloud hosting . Slow website loading and website down time is what hurts most in a shared hosting. But in cloud hosting you won’t face any such kind of issues.
How to get notification when website is down ?
This is what i wanted to know when i was using a shared hosting plan. My website used to be down and no one was there to alert me for that. It was really tough to keep an eye on the website whether it is online or offline ? We can’t come and check it 24*7 manually , so we need a tool for that.
So finally i got this website : Pingdom Website Downtime monitoring , It is free for 14 days so you can have a 14 days trail . I have used it personally and it will inform you when your website going down and coming live again with the proper timing details. They also tell you that for how long your website was down , so you can have a check on that too .
